$ε$-Lexicase selection: a probabilistic and multi-objective analysis of lexicase selection in continuous domains

چکیده
Lexicase selection is a parent selection method that considers training cases individually, rather than in aggregate, when performing parent selection. Whereas previous work has demonstrated the ability of lexicase selection to solve difficult problems, the central goal of this paper is to develop the theoretical underpinnings that explain its performance. To this end, we derive an analytical formula that gives the expected probabilities of selection under lexicase selection, given a population and its behavior. In addition, we expand upon the relation of lexicase selection to many-objective optimization methods to describe the behavior of lexicase, which is to select individuals on the boundaries of Pareto fronts in high-dimensional space. We show analytically why lexicase selection performs more poorly for certain sizes of population and training cases, and show why it has been shown to perform more poorly in continuous error spaces. To address this last concern, we introduce -lexicase selection, which modifies the pass condition in lexicase selection to allow near-elite individuals to pass cases, thereby improving selection performance with continuous errors. We show that -lexicase outperforms several diversity-maintenance strategies on a number of real-world and synthetic regression problems.

-Lexicase Selection for Regression
Lexicase selection is a parent selection method that considers test cases separately, rather than in aggregate, when performing parent selection. It performs well in discrete error spaces but not on the continuous-valued problems that compose most system identification tasks. In this paper, we develop a new form of lexicase selection for symbolic regression, named -lexicase selection, that rede...
متن کاملLexicase selection for program synthesis: a diversity analysis
Lexicase selection is a selection method for evolutionary computation in which individuals are selected by filtering the population according to performance on test cases, considered in random order. When used as the parent selection method in genetic programming, lexicase selection has been shown to provide significant improvements in problem-solving power. In this chapter we investigate the r...
متن کاملA Comparison of Multiobjective Algorithms in Evolving Quadrupedal Gaits
Robotic systems, whether physical or virtual, must balance multiple objectives to operate effectively. Beyond performance metrics such as speed and turning radius, efficiency of movement, stability, and other objectives contribute to the overall functionality of a system. Optimizing multiple objectives requires algorithms that explore and balance improvements in each. In this paper, we evaluate...
متن کاملA Fuzzy Goal Programming Model for Efficient Portfolio Selection.
This paper considers a multi-objective portfolio selection problem imposed by gaining of portfolio, divided yield and risk control in an ambiguous investment environment, in which the return and risk are characterized by probabilistic numbers. Based on the theory of possibility, a new multi-objective portfolio optimization model with gaining of portfolio, divided yield and risk control is propo...
متن کاملDiscrimination of Power Quality Distorted Signals Based on Time-frequency Analysis and Probabilistic Neural Network
Recognition and classification of Power Quality Distorted Signals (PQDSs) in power systems is an essential duty. One of the noteworthy issues in Power Quality Analysis (PQA) is identification of distorted signals using an efficient scheme. This paper recommends a Time–Frequency Analysis (TFA), for extracting features, so-called "hybrid approach", using incorporation of Multi Resolution Analysis...
